Darcy has a real passion for the outdoors and loves sharing his knowledge about the area such as the local Maori culture and history. Darcy loves to fish the isolated waters of Ruakituri & Lake Waikaremoana, sharing these experiences with visitors to the area is a bonus.
The reason the Ruakituri is so good is that the majority of the river originates from the Te Urewera National Park.
At the top end, the river clears quickly after rain. Much of the river is easily accessed from the road and over private land. Darcy has long standing relationships from fellow land owners for permission and access to these exclusive fishing waters.
Kaikino station is 630 ha of East Coast hill country, running 3000 sheep and 600 cattle. It boundaries the Hangaroa river which meets up with the Ruakituri river at nearby Te Reinga Falls. The Hangaroa river is a good option to fish if the Ruakituri in the unlikelihood it is discoloured.
